Haute Couture Iceland

2023 -Reykjavik - Iceland

Born from a collection of exceptional handwoven fabrics left behind by Guðrún Vigfúsdóttir, Haute Couture Iceland is a study in heritage, transformation and time.
Woven in Ísafjörður between 1967 and 1972 at Guðrún’s weaving facility, each textile was made from 100% Icelandic wool. Decades later, her daughter and granddaughter, Guðrún Sturludóttir, brought the remaining fabrics to the STEiNUNN studio.
The textiles carried the unmistakable character of their era—their colours, textures and patterns rooted in another time. The challenge was not to recreate the past, but to reinterpret it: to give these historic fabrics a new language and bring them into the present.
Each piece was conceived as a singular expression of the material, allowing the original textile to remain at the heart of the design. No two pieces were made alike.
The collection was presented at STEiNUNN Studio in March 2023, with each design produced as a single, one-of-a-kind piece.
